Soldiers’ and OMAH unveil historical exhibit

2/19/2008 12:00:00 AM

On Wednesday, February 20, 2008 Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and the Orillia Museum of Art and History (OMAH) will unveil the newest addition to the hospital’s year long centennial celebration.

A Century of Caring: An Installation of Artifacts and Photos exhibit, created in partnership with the OMAH, features four large-scale panels showcasing defining moments in Soldiers’ history: revisiting the early beginnings, the rapid growth, and the completion of redevelopment at Soldiers’. The panels will be featured along the walls of the main elevator and concourse area.

“It was a pleasure to work in partnership with Soldiers' Memorial Hospital to provide research expertise and loaned artifacts to celebrate the hospital's 100th anniversary,” says Sim Salata, Director and Curator of the OMAH. “This project highlighted a really interesting part of Orillia's community history.”

The year long exhibit will also highlight pieces of Soldiers’ history, including the original Letters Patent from 1908, as well as other historical portraits, documents and medical artifacts. There will also be a display in honour of the Orillia School of Nursing, which was an integral part of the hospital until 1974.

A Century of Caring exhibit opens Wednesday, February 20 at 10:30 a.m. with a reception to kick off the unveiling.
