First baby born in renovated Birthing Unit celebrated

5/11/2008 12:00:00 AM

Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital is delighted to announce the arrival of Quinn Thomson, the first baby born on the newly renovated Birthing Unit.

Quinn made his first appearance at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2008. He is the first son of proud parents Sheri and Duncan Thomson.

“It was the slowest labour in the world,” laughs Sheri. “However it was absolutely exhilarating and in the end it was well worth it.”

Each birth at Soldiers’ is an extraordinary one, but this one had special significance as it was the first birth since the unit re-opened in its permanent home this past weekend.

“The renovation of our state-of-the-art facility is complete and it is something to celebrate, especially in our centennial year,” says Linda Adams-Best, Manager of Birthing and New Family Services. “The new facility provides our doctors, nurses and midwives with the most advanced equipment to efficiently serve our mothers and babies.

Along with the completion of redevelopment, May also marks the 100th anniversary of the hospital; because Quinn was the first baby born on the new unit in our centennial year, the Thomson family will be receiving a small gift from the staff at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital today.
