SMH appoints Vice President Patient Care Services

After conducting a national search complemented by a rigorous interview process involving medical, clinical and administrative staff, Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Cheryl Harrison as Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Executive (CNE).


“We are thrilled that Cheryl will be joining us here at Soldiers’, this position is critical to our hospital and our community,” says Elisabeth Riley, President and CEO. “Leadership from this position ensures that our patients and our community are receiving the safest, most exceptional care. In her role as CNE she will also provide valuable leadership to our nursing staff.”


Cheryl joins Soldiers’ after a number of years at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario, most recently as a Program Director in Critical Care, Dialysis, and Infection Prevention and Control.  She has also held a variety of clinical roles including responsibilities for Decision Support, Health Records, and Clinical Resource Management.


A registered nurse, Cheryl holds a Masters of Health Administration from the University of Toronto and is a Certified Health Executive (CHE). She is a surveyor for the Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation, and a member and past chair of the Canadian College of Health Service Executives.


Cheryl has been actively involved in many patient safety initiatives through the Safer Healthcare Now program, where she has acted as a coach for other hospitals within her LHIN. Most notably, Cheryl was instrumental in research work during the SARS crisis for which she received provincial accolades.


“Cheryl’s diverse range of experience in patient care and patient safety make her a perfect fit for Soldiers’,” adds Riley.


Cheryl will officially join Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on July 14, 2008.
