Soldiers’ reopens OR

6/11/2008 12:00:00 AM

Officials at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital have confirmed that damages to two of the cooling and humidity control system within the hospital have been repaired. Once all chillers are up and running Soldiers’ Memorial should be able to proceed with all scheduled surgeries by tomorrow morning.

“Our operating rooms are now down to 50 per cent humidity which means we can proceed with scheduled surgeries tomorrow,” explains Elisabeth Riley, President and CEO. “However, for infection control and patient safety purposes, all of our operating rooms must now be thoroughly cleaned before they can be re-opened.”

At this time, Soldiers’ Memorial is still conducting emergency c-sections, and will respond to surgeries that are “life or limb” in nature.

Earlier today Soldiers’ Memorial had to cancel all elective surgeries after yesterday’s high temperatures caused a transformer failure at Soldiers’. Damages to the cooling and humidity control system increased humidity levels within the hospital.

We apologize for any inconvenience to our patients and their families. All patients will be notified if their surgeries are still on schedule for tomorrow.
