Soldiers’ conducts necessary fire alarm testing

7/24/2008 12:00:00 AM

Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital has completed the installation of a new fire alarm system that will enhance staff and patient safety.

As a result, a mandatory facility wide audible test of the system must be conducted to ensure our system meets fire safety codes. This verification test will take place over the course of a three hour period on Sunday, July 27, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The fire alarm system test will be closely monitored by the Orillia Fire Department, the Hospital, and the installers. It will consist of a continuous series of evacuation tones with sporadic breaks throughout. Because of the noise associated with this process, hearing protection (earplugs) will be provided to all areas of the hospital before Sunday’s test.

All patients and families are reminded that the hospital will still be admitting patients, and no programs or services will be affected during the testing process.

Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is a 230-bed hospital located in Orillia, Ontario (just 114 kilometres north of Toronto) that serves more than 440,000 residents in North Simcoe Muskoka. OSMH provides a comprehensive range of programs and services, including medical, surgical and emergency care, dialysis, obstetrical and paediatric care, oncology, complex continuing care, mental health and rehabilitation services. While it remains Orillia’s community hospital, OSMH has a new role as a regional healthcare centre. For more information please visit our website at www.osmh.on.ca.
