Complete OSMH senior leadership team at work

7/25/2008 12:00:00 AM

For the first time since the summer of 2007, the complete senior leadership team at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) in Orillia is in place and on the job.

“This is a significant milestone in the re-development of our organization,” said Elisabeth Riley, President and Chief Executive Officer, who began her job on April 14.

“While it will still take time for the newest team members to grow into their roles, I’m thrilled with the rapidity with which the team is growing into a cohesive group and I am confident that the hospital is poised to enter into a period of stability.”

The final additions to the senior team commenced their duties last week with the arrival of Cheryl Harrison, VP Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Executive, and Terry Dyni, Director, Community Relations.

“We’ve been able to recruit some very well qualified individuals into these key roles and I look forward to working closely with them to make a positive impact on our organization and the community,” said Dr. Donald Atkinson, Chief of Medical Staff, who joined OSMH in February 2007.

“My early focus will be on teambuilding and program development,” said Harrison, a registered nurse and former Program Director in Critical Care, Dialysis, and Infection Control at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay.

“After only a few days on the job, I can already sense a feeling of welcome and a strong desire to provide the best patient care possible to the residents of Orillia and surrounding communities.”

“The board is delighted that OSMH now has the senior team we need to face the challenges ahead,” said Bob Middaugh, board chair of Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

“By having individuals such as Elisabeth Riley – who in such a short time period has proven her leadership skills – at the helm of our organization, we will continue to build on the excellent reputation the hospital has established over the past century, and work towards achieving our vision of becoming a centre of excellence in patient care for our community and our region.”

Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is a 230-bed hospital located in Orillia, Ontario (just 114 kilometres north of Toronto) that serves more than 440,000 residents in North Simcoe Muskoka. OSMH provides a comprehensive range of programs and services, including medical, surgical and emergency care, dialysis, obstetrical and paediatric care, oncology, complex continuing care, mental health and rehabilitation services. While it remains Orillia’s community hospital, OSMH has a new role as a regional healthcare centre. For more information please visit our website at www.osmh.on.ca.
