Tree of Life donations expected to top $10,000

Fall has officially arrived in Orillia, and it’s not the changing colours of the leaves or the crispness in the air that signalled its arrival; it was the return of Shoppers Drug Mart’s annual Tree of Life campaign.

Every year the local Shoppers Drug Mart stores take part in the Tree of Life campaign, which, this year, is expected to eclipse the $10,000 mark in support of the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation.

“This is the third year OSMH has been selected as the beneficiary of the Tree of Life proceeds,” says Nicole McCahon, executive director of the hospital foundation. “We are thankful to Shoppers for selecting us, and also thankful to the local community who has supported it.”

In the last two years over $8000 has been raised for the hospital.

“We are very fortunate that the campaign has been a huge success since it first started back in 2006,” McCahon adds.

During the month-long campaign, customers of our local Shoppers Drug Mart stores are given the opportunity to purchase and personalize their own paper “leaf” for $1, “maple leaf” for $5 or an “apple” for $50. Each item is then displayed on a branch on the “Tree of Life” located inside the store. One-hundred per cent of all proceeds from the paper fruit and foliage go directly to the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation.

This year’s campaign, which started on September 13, runs until October 10.

Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Foundation is a proud partner of Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and the people of Orillia and North Simcoe Muskoka. The foundation provides funds to the hospital to buy medical equipment, sustain programs and assist the hospital in maintaining its position as a leader in providing quality community based healthcare.
