OSMH is committed to providing safe, high quality and standardized cancer care to patients, and to meet the service delivery guidelines established by Cancer Care Ontario. We work closely with the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre (SMRCC) at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie, along with other regional cancer centres in Ontario to ensure OSMH patients receive the best possible care.
The cancer treatment program at OSMH was established in 1983 and provides chemotherapy, prevention and screening activities, and pre and post care, along with pump disconnects, hydration and blood transfusions, in addition to support services and procedures such as imaging, laboratory and surgery.
In July 2012, the OSMH Board approved a plan that would establish the OSMH Cancer Clinic as a Satellite of the SMRCC by November 2014, furthering the goal of providing patients with safe, high quality, standardized care as close to home as possible. This change would result in a temporary transfer of chemotherapy services from OSMH to the SMRCC for approximately 2 years. OSMH will continue to provide its other oncology services in the interim and is committed to identifying transportation alternatives to assist patients during the temporary transfer.
