Welcome to Soldiers' / Diabetes Education Centre

The Adult Program at the Diabetes Education Centre (DEC) provides education for the prevention and management of diabetes. We offer a multidisciplinary approach to diabetes education.

Our diabetes educators are registered nurses and dietitians, and include certified diabetes educators and certified pump trainers. Extended team members include: physician specialist, community family physician, chiropodist, occupational therapist, pharmacists and physiotherapist.  They are supported by clerical staff and volunteers.

At the DEC we are committed to providing quality education for the prevention and management of diabetes. The program is based on the Canadian Diabetes Association’s 2008 Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Diabetes in Canada.

Referral Process

We accept referrals from family physicians, specialists, other healthcare professionals and through self or family referral.  People who have been diagnosed with impaired fasting glucose or impaired glucose tolerance (prediabetes), type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and impaired glucose tolerance of pregnancy, or gestational diabetes, may also be referred.
