POSITION SUMMARY: The clerk is primarily responsible for the registration and disposition of patients to the emergency department, processing of incoming calls and the day to day operation of emergency department communication systems 


  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Terminology Course is required.
  • Medical Administration Course an asset.
  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary diploma/degree an asset.
  • Current experience in emergency department registration and communication roles an asset.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2003 (Excel, Word, Scheduling System).
  • Demonstrated Keyboarding skills minimum 50 words per minute.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, communication and professional customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills, flexibility and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations.
  • Detail oriented and accurate documentation skills.
  • Knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Understands and demonstrates through performance, an acceptable level of ethical conduct.
  • Satisfactory work performance and attendance record required.
  • The successful candidate will have a continuing commitment to professional development as well as to the Mission and Vision of the Hospital. Demonstrates proficiency in written and verbal communications skills in relation to working with patients across the care continuum.
