POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Health Records, Registration & Privacy Services, the Student will be responsible to cover the following functions: Prepping and scanning patient records according to established procedures; handling patient record requests from the emergency department and other areas; retrieving charts for physicians attending the department for chart completion and maintaining scanning equipment and informs departmental staff if there are any equipment, process concerns.
o work independently and use good judgment and conduct themselves in a professional manner;
- Current enrolment in an education program is required.
- General office experience is an asset.
- Student only available for summer months need not apply.
- Ability to:
o organize, prioritize and follow established patterns and specific procedures in a standardized order;
o operate office equipment (scanner, copier, microfilm reader printer);
o communicate (both verbally and in writing) effectively with physicians, other paramedical staff, and
o walk, stand, climb, lift and frequently stoop to file and retrieve records.
o Handling of records management (filing systems) and record retention policies based on Public Hospitals Act
- Operate Microsoft office applications, (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ADT system.
- Preference for work that is high volume, organized, routine, which involves concentration and attention to details resulting in a high degree of accuracy.
- Knowledge of:
o Patient Information Confidentially
- Satisfactory work performance and attendance record required.
- The successful candidate will have a proven commitment to professional development as well as to the Mission and Vision of the Hospital. Demonstrates proficiency in written and verbal communications skills in relation to working with patients across the care continuum.
Year round: varied shifts but may work every 2nd or 3rd evening 3:00-9:00 pm.
Summer months: Possible increased hours at the discretion of Department Director.
