OSMH Board elects new Chair

6/28/2012 12:00:00 AM

(Thursday, June 28, 2012 - Orillia, ON) – Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) has a new Chair for its Board of Directors.  Greg Gee was elected as Board Chair at the inaugural Board Meeting of OSMH following the Annual General Meeting of the hospital on Tuesday.

“I'm honoured to follow in the footsteps of several excellent Board Chairs who have begun a new chapter in recent years with our Board,” said Gee.

A retired corporate lawyer, Gee brings considerable experience in Board Governance to his new role.  "I look forward to working with the OSMH Board as we tackle a number of new challenges, which hospitals are facing across the Ontario," observed Greg as he assumed his new duties.

In addition to Gee’s appointment, Jeffrey French will join the executive as Second Vice-Chair.  Paul Leskew will continue as First Vice-Chair and Treasurer, and Elisabeth Riley as Secretary of the Board in her capacity as President and CEO.

After a thorough application and interview process, George Beatty, Ted Emond, Michael McMurter and Paulette Wilson captured four of the five vacancies on the Board, while Gee was successful in his re-election. Beatty, a Judge with the Ontario Court of Justice, Gee, McMurter, an IT specialist, and Wilson, an RN and Occupational Health and Safety Nurse, were elected to three year terms, while Emond, former mayor and HR professional, was elected for a two year term to replace Paul Weber who resigned earlier in the year.

“We have a great complement of skills and experience on the Board,” explains Elisabeth Riley, President and CEO.  “Our new Directors bring a rich variety of skills and experience (legal, HR, IT, nursing and occupational health). These are individuals within our community who are deeply committed and give their time and expertise to the future of health care within our community.”
