McHappy Days Supports Children at Soldiers’

5/8/2007 12:00:00 AM

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 9 is McHappy Day at McDonald’s. The annual effort raises funds for children’s charities across Canada. This year in Orillia, proceeds will support the pediatric department at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

“We have such a wonderful hospital. We want to do anything we can to help,” says local store owner Roy Pearn. “Across Canada, McDonald’s fundraising focus is on children. Here in our community, helping improve the lives of children, and their parents, at our own hospital is a natural fit.”

All money raised during the Orillia McHappy Day will go to a specific needed piece of equipment. The goal is to raise $3,000 to buy a new state-of-the-art crib. The specialty crib is designed to ensure that seriously ill children can be treated safely. When seconds count in the life of a child, the railing can be immediately opened up for easy access by doctors and nurses. In addition, the mattress can adjust to raise or lower the child’s feet and head.

“McDonald’s has a long history of supporting kids at our hospital. It’s great to be part of such a huge cross-country effort with local benefits,” says Lee Pigeau, Executive Director of Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation.

McHappy Days counts on support from across the community. Local politicians, celebrities and hospital leaders will be just some of the people pitching in to make the day a success. McHappy Days runs all day tomorrow at the Orillia McDonald’s locations at Wal-mart and on Memorial Avenue. One dollar from every McMuffin, Big Mac and Happy Meal will go toward supporting the youngest patients at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital
