OSMH on Alert for Swine Flu

4/28/2009 12:00:00 AM

(Tuesday, April 28, 2009 - Orillia, ON) – Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is monitoring the spread of the Swine Flu virus out of Mexico and remains on alert for patients exhibiting symptoms of Severe Respiratory Illness (SRI).

All patients are being screened for SRI upon entry to the hospital, which includes asking patients if they have a new or worsening cough, have experienced any recent chills or fevers, or have travelled to any of the affected areas in the past seven days.

OSMH has also placed signage at entry points to the building, asking people with these symptoms to immediately wash their hands, don a mask and reporting directly to the nearest healthcare professional.

OSMH continues to work closely with its Infection Prevention and Control Team along with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to monitor and respond to the situation as necessary.

Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is a 230-bed hospital located in Orillia, Ontario (just 114 kilometres north of Toronto) that serves more than 440,000 residents in North Simcoe Muskoka. OSMH provides a comprehensive range of programs and services, including medical, surgical and emergency care, dialysis, obstetrical and paediatric care, oncology, complex continuing care, mental health and rehabilitation services. While it remains Orillia’s community hospital, OSMH has a new role as a regional healthcare centre. For more information please visit our website at www.osmh.on.ca.
