9/8/2009 12:00:00 AM

(Tuesday, September 8, 2009 - Orillia, ON) – Gordon Lightfoot will perform at the theatre he grew up in, the Orillia Opera House on November 14 and 15, 2009.  The Orillia native will perform at no cost and the proceeds from the concerts will be split between Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital Foundation and The Orillia Opera House.

“I’m looking forward to performing in Orillia once again,” said Lightfoot.  “The Opera House holds some very fond memories for me and I’m pleased that the proceeds will go towards two very worthy causes that are close to my heart.”

Lightfoot’s career has spanned more than 35 years, and he has recorded over 200 songs. He has influenced many other highly successful artists such as Bob Dylan who calls Lightfoot ‘one of his favorite songwriters’.

Lightfoot has won 15 Juno awards and was inducted in the Juno Hall of Fame in 1986.

“We are very grateful to Gordon Lightfoot for his generous and continued support of his hometown hospital,” said Elisabeth Riley, OSMH President and CEO.  “He is truly a Canadian treasure and we are thrilled to be able to welcome him back to the stage where his legendary career began.”

These two very special performances will take place in the Gordon Lightfoot Auditorium at the Orillia Opera House which General Manager, Krista Storey says is a thrill each time he returns home.  “We consider Gordon to be a very important part of our family and we are so privileged that he is offering these two great fundraising shows.  It proves that he is still very devoted to his home town.”
