Two new directors elected to OSMH Board

6/30/2010 12:00:00 AM

(Wednesday, June 30, 2010 - Orillia, ON) – Ken Brownlee and Jeffrey French are the two newest members of the OSMH Board of Directors following elections during the organization’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) Tuesday evening.

Brownlee and French captured two of the five vacancies while incumbents John Cameron, Paul Leskew and Gord Michener were successful in their re-election bids as voted on by members of the hospital corporation.

“I’m excited to be afforded this privilege to contribute my skills toward addressing the opportunities and challenges facing the hospital,” said Brownlee, a longtime Orillia resident with a strong background in business and governance. Brownlee is formerly the Chief Operating Officer of MJF Media in Toronto and is a former governor on the Georgian College Board of Directors.

French also combines strong business acumen with a passion for the community and a desire to give back.

“I was born at this hospital and so were my two children,” said French.  “Over the years, my family has required the services of its Emergency Department more often than we would have liked, and at every instance the hospital has provided exemplary care and service.”

French is a resident of Hawkestone, ON and works as the Manager of Planning & Marketing Operations for Parts Source, a division of Canadian Tire Corporation.

Immediately following the AGM, the new Board met to elect its Executive with John Cameron, who held the position of Vice-Chair for the past year, moving into the Chair’s role, held by Bob Middaugh for the past 2 years.

“I’m honoured to be named Chair of the Board,” said Cameron, who is starting his second 3-year term on the Board.  He paid tribute to outgoing chair Bob Middaugh.

“This hospital has undergone an incredibly positive transformation since the turmoil of a few years ago and a big part of that success has to do with the insightful, calm and considerate style of leadership that Bob has brought to this table.   He was definitely the right person at the right time for this organization.”

Joining Cameron on the Executive of the Board will be Paul Leskew who will hold a dual role as First Vice-Chair and Treasurer while Gregory Gee will serve as Second Vice-Chair, and Elisabeth Riley as Secretary of the Board in her capacity as President and CEO.

There are also changes to the medical representatives on the Board that reflect the changes to the Executive of the Medical Staff Association (MSA).  Dr. Grant Ho, MSA President, and Dr. Antoine Gagnon, MSA Vice-President, will represent their association on the OSMH Board.
