Nominating committee releases list of recommended candidates to fill Board vacancies

Friday, April 08, 2011

(Friday, April 8, 2011 - Orillia, ON) – The nominating committee tasked with identifying candidates to fill the four anticipated vacancies on the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Board of Directors has released its recommendation. The list will be presented to the hospital’s corporate membership for consideration at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 28, 2011.

Under hospital by-laws, additional nominations can still be submitted up to 30 days prior to the AGM.  The deadline for submissions is May 28, 2011. Nomination packages including eligibility requirements are available under the Director Nomination Package link on the home page, or by contacting Nicky Marchant at nlmarchant@osmh.on.ca or (705) 325-2201 ext. 3203.

The four candidates being recommended by the committee include:

  • Tony Katarynych - Mr. Katarynych is a Senior Financial Planning Advisor with Assante Wealth Management in Orillia.  He is a current member of OSMH Board of Directors whose initial term will expire at the 2011 AGM.
  • Ted Sasaki - Mr. Sasaki is a retired Manager-Administration from TD Bank Head Office, Toronto. He is a volunteer at the hospital.
  • Al Scott - Mr. Scott is an Intelligence Analyst at Ontario Provincial Police headquarters in Orillia and has a background in accounting and finance.
  • Paul Weber - Mr. Weber is a successful entrepreneur who currently serves as Campaign Chair for Lakehead University – Orillia Campus.

Along with Mr. Katarynych, the terms of three other current directors will expire at the AGM.  Connie Davidson, Gord Michener and Cliff Whitfield have all indicated they will not stand for re-election. OSMH is grateful for their important contributions during their time as Directors.

The nominating committee consisted of current OSMH Board members Jeffrey French, Bob Middaugh and Bob Thomas, along with John Mayo who served as the community representative.  In considering the nominations, the committee’s goal was to balance the overall skills mix of the current Board by recommending individuals with previous Board experience, and who also have expertise in one or more areas such as Board governance, finance, legal, information technology, risk management, or facilities redevelopment.
