OSMH captures silver at Quality Workplace Awards

Monday, November 28, 2011

(Monday, November 28, 2011 - Orillia, ON) – Enhancing the quality of the workplace and improving patient care are two of the main reasons Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) was recognized earlier this month at a provincial awards ceremony in Toronto.

OSMH achieved silver status at the 2011 Quality Healthcare Workplace Awards, as presented by the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care at the OHA’s annual conference on November 7.

“This is a significant honour for our hospital and one that I’m particularly proud of,” said Elisabeth Riley, OSMH President and Chief Executive Officer.

“Not only does it represent a great deal of effort from many different people in our hospital, it’s also an indicator that we’re on the right track as an organization.   Several of our improvement efforts are guided by the ‘lean’ philosophy, trying to eliminate waste from our processes in an effort to enhance quality of care while improving the work experience.”

OSMH was one of 37 hospitals and healthcare organizations in Ontario to receive the Quality Healthcare Workplace award, which has four levels - Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum - designed to encourage self-evaluation, learning, and improvement.

A high-calibre adjudication panel of quality workplace experts completed a rigorous assessment process when reviewing all of the submissions, which focused on drivers of employee and organizational health.

Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is located in Orillia, Ontario (just 114 kilometres north of Toronto) and serves more than 440,000 residents in North Simcoe Muskoka. OSMH provides a comprehensive range of programs and services, including medical, surgical and emergency care, dialysis, obstetrical and paediatric care, oncology, complex continuing care, mental health and rehabilitation services. While it remains Orillia’s community hospital, OSMH has a new role as a regional healthcare centre. For more information please visit our website at www.osmh.on.ca.
