OSMH successfully completes Workwell Safety Audit on first attempt

Tuesday, December 06, 2011

(Monday, December 5, 2011 - Orillia, ON) – An external audit of staff safety programs in place at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) received an uncommon thumbs-up from the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB).  WSIB staff was at the hospital for three days last week conducting a Workwell Safety Audit, an intensive process that examines the effectiveness of safety practices and initiatives within an organization to ensure staff safety.

Prior to undergoing a Workwell Audit, one of the first messages organizations hear is that 90% fail to successfully complete the audit on their first try.  Those odds didn’t seem to faze OSMH who came out of the Audit with a passing grade of 83.67%, well above the 75% required to avoid a return visit.

“This is great news and a major accomplishment for our hospital,” said John Cameron, Chair of the OSMH Board of Directors. “Congratulations to everyone involved in this success.”

In its recently revised Strategic Plan, OSMH has identified ‘Focusing on Quality and Safety’ as one of its five strategic themes.

Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is located in Orillia, Ontario (just 114 kilometres north of Toronto) and serves more than 440,000 residents in North Simcoe Muskoka.
