OSMH introduces new parking system, adjusts rates

7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM

(Friday, July 19, 2013 - Orillia, ON) – Over the next month, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) will be phasing in a new, more flexible visitor parking system.

Currently, visitors to the main public parking lot pay a flat fee of $5 upon exit no matter how long the vehicle is there.  The new system calculates a fee based upon the length of time the vehicle is in the lot, and is built on a fee structure of $2.50 per half hour, up to a daily maximum of $10.

"Our new system provides a variety of pay options for patients and visitors instead of one flat fee,” said Doug Murray, Vice President - Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer.  "Many hospitals across the country have implemented this type of system."

Under the new system, visitors using the main lot will be provided with a ticket stub when the button is pushed to gain entry to the lot.  Just prior to leaving, the ticket stub must be inserted into a pay station located at three locations: inside the main lobby, at the basement level entrance, and adjacent to the visitor lot exit gate.  Once the transaction is complete, the individual has approximately 15 minutes to exit the lot.

The main public parking lot is the only lot that will utilize this system.  All of the other public parking spaces on hospital property will be governed by one of two methods: Pay and Display or Metered parking.  Rates in those areas will be the same as the main lot.  Similar to metered parking, Pay and Display parking allows the individual to select the length of time required, complete the transaction immediately and display the ticket stub on the dashboard of the vehicle.

There are three areas that will offer a ‘short term’ Pay and Display or metered option, allowing for 15 minutes of parking for patient drop-off and pick-up.  Those areas are immediately outside the main entrance, the emergency entrance and the Dialysis/Paediatrics entrance.

As well, weekly parking passes will now be available for $30, monthly passes for $75.

Revenues generated from parking support the day-to-day operations of the hospital.
