Giving challenge sparks campaign support

12/21/2015 12:00:00 AM

(Monday, December 21, 2015 - Orillia, ON) – Earlier this month, HGR Graham Partners extended a friendly challenge to Orillia businesses to support the campaign to bring digital mammography to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH).  This challenge followed their donation of $10,000 and has been met with an outpouring of support.

Mark and Leah Clancy of Peak Engineering and Construction Ltd. were glad to accept the challenge, explaining, “The OSMH Foundation is a great cause and we are proud to support our local hospital.  We were quite excited to be able to apply this donation towards the digital mammography campaign."

While their $5,000 donation was sparked by the digital mammography challenge, Peak Engineering is a strong supporter of the OSMH Foundation and regularly donates to charities in the Orillia community.

“It’s really important to us to support causes like the campaign for digital mammography,” explained Leah Clancy.  “It’s the season of giving and we hope that other businesses in our community will also accept the challenge and support our hospital.”

Peak Engineering was not the only donor to rise to the challenge. Since the challenge was issued, more than $25,000 has been donated in support of the campaign, from both businesses and individuals in the community.

William Holdsworth, a local lawyer, was one of those generous individuals.  He explained, “This is a cause that is close to my heart.  I lost a sister to breast cancer and my elderly Mother had breast cancer as well, but because of early detection she is a survivor. Digital mammography will benefit so many women in our community and I’m proud to support a campaign that will help save lives.”

Although the giving challenge has found success, community support is still needed to reach the $700,000 goal to purchase the new mammography machine.
