Paging Dr. Bones fundraiser to support physician recruitment

2/11/2016 12:00:00 AM

(Thursday, February 11, 2016 – Orillia)  The third annual physician recruitment fundraising event, hosted by the Orillia and Area Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee (OAPRRC), will take place at Georgian College Orillia on February 19.  Presented by Assante Wealth Management – Tony Katarynych, “Paging Dr. Bones” will include wine, beer and spirits tastings, and a sampling of local fine foods accompanied by live local music and entertainment.

Funds raised at the event will support physician recruitment and retention efforts led by the OAPRRC.

“Physician recruitment and retention are critical to keeping our community healthy,” explained Dr. Matt Miller, chair of the OAPRRC Committee, chiropractor and owner of Miller Health Centre.  “Fundraisers like Paging Dr. Bones will allow us to meet the growing needs of our community, and help us to recruit the 15 family physicians and specialists that will be needed in the next three years.”

With the help of sponsors and event attendees, the event has raised more than $50,000 since it began three years ago.  This year’s event hopes to raise $25,000 to support OAPRRC retention programs such as long-term service awards and projects including the Geriatric Day Clinic that will open this spring, as well recruitment initiatives such as tours of Orillia and surrounding communities.

“Recruiting and retaining qualified physicians and healthcare professionals to our community can profoundly impact the quality of care at our hospital.  We invite all of our community members to attend the event and support this vital cause,” said Lisa Stanley, event co-chair and director of finance and development at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Tickets for the event are $60 each, and include food and drink tastings provided by local restaurants. The event will also feature a silent auction and entertainment from local musicians including Will Davis and Bruce Rumble, Patio Cats, and Honeymead.
