8/3/2016 12:00:00 AM

(Wednesday, August 3 - Orillia, ON) - Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Foundation announced today that two community players will be joining the roster for Hockey Night in Simcoe County. They include Orillia Mayor Steve Clarke and OSMH Practitioner Dr. Peter Daniel.

These community players will have the opportunity to skate alongside a long list of hockey superstars including Connor McDavid and Aaron Ekblad at the Barrie Molson Centre on August 11th. Their participation will also aid in raising funds for Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

“It’s such a privilege to have been selected to participate in Hockey Night in Simcoe County,” said Orillia Mayor Steve Clarke. “I can’t wait to hit the ice with some hockey greats, while raising much needed funds for my community hospital.”

All the funds raised by the hospital’s two community players will go directly toward the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) renovations at OSMH. The renovations are set to begin this summer, and will see the space more than double in size from 955 square-feet to 2,200 square-feet. Essential equipment will also be replaced, including incubators, ventilators and cardiac monitors.

“As a new beneficiary to the expanded Hockey Night in Simcoe County, we’re delighted to join in on the excitement and enthusiasm this event has generated over the years,” said OSMH President & CEO, Pat Campbell. “The funds raised will help our hospital provide the highest quality care to our youngest patients.”

Additional proceeds generated from ticket sales and sponsorship at Hockey Night in Simcoe County will be shared among the event’s four beneficiaries including the Barrie Colts Foundation, Georgian Bay General Hospital, OSMH and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. This is the first year the event has been expanded beyond Barrie to include the involvement of other hospitals and organizations in Simcoe County.
