(Wednesday, June 29, 2016—Orillia, ON) - Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Foundation is celebrating another successful year in fundraising. It was revealed at the Foundation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) that just short of $3-million was raised in the 2015-16 fiscal year. The funds were generated through major gifts from donors, annual giving and special event revenue.

“With the continued engagement of our donors and volunteers, and the leadership of our board and staff, I am proud of what we have accomplished over the past year,” said Board Chair John Cameron. “The hospital still has $22-million in unmet capital needs, and it’s our responsibility to make sure patients at OSMH have the highest quality of care possible.”

The funds were designated to a number of projects in the hospital, including equipment purchases, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit renovations, and the hospital’s Cancer Care Project. The Foundation also contributed $1.3-million to the hospital’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) project, which went live in early June.

The Foundation’s Board of Directors also saw the induction of three new members. They include Dr. Nancy Harris, who recently retired after more than 35 years as a family physician, Dr. Reza Behjati, an anatomical pathologist who has been practicing at OSMH for five years, and Richard O’Neill, a community representative who is a Commercial Account Manager at BMO’s Orillia County Fair Branch.

“I couldn’t be happier to see the addition of three new qualified members to our Board of Directors,” said Nicole McCahon, Executive Director, OSMH Foundation. “They each bring a unique set of skills to the board and will help shape the future of our organization.”

These three new members join the OSMH Foundation’s existing board which includes John Cameron, Chair, Greg Parker, Vice Chair, David Power, Treasurer, Lynne Zulian, Secretary, Danielle Tisi, Immediate Past Chair, Pat Campbell, OSMH President and CEO, Nicole McCahon, OSMH Foundation Executive Director, Chuck Burton, John Mattinson, Sheilagh Rose and Hugh Stevenson.

In the fall, the Board of Directors and staff will begin developing a new strategic plan for the OSMH Foundation, along with a feasibility study to support a Capital Campaign. The results of this study will help map out the Foundation’s fundraising priorities and initiatives going forward.
