Ladies ball hockey tournament to benefit mental health services at OSMH

7/25/2016 12:00:00 AM

(Monday, July 25, 2016—Orillia)—The first annual Jackie Brunck Memorial Cup will take place on Saturday, August 27th at the Orillia Ball Hockey League. All proceeds from the ladies ball hockey tournament will go toward Mental Health Services at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

“We’re hosting this tournament in memory of our dear friend Jackie, who lost her life to suicide,” said organizer Melissa Gammon. “We hope this tournament will help break the stigma surrounding mental health, while raising much needed funds for Orillia’s hospital.”

The fundraising goal for the event is $4800, which is the cost to replace a mental health bed at the hospital.

“Replacing a mental health bed at OSMH will mean improved quality and safety for our patients,” said Shawna Belcher, Program Manager for Mental Health Services at OSMH. “We can’t thank Melissa and her team enough for raising awareness and some much needed funds for our hospital.”

Proceeds are being raised through sponsorship, team registration, a silent auction and donations on the Jackie Brunck Memorial Cup Canada Helps online giving page. People are also encouraged to attend the event and bring a cash donation. If you would like more information on how you can support the tournament, email
