Hospital Services

  • Accommodations

When a family member has been hospitalized or is being treated at OSMH you may need to stay in Orillia. Please ask the volunteers at the Information Desk, in the main lobby of the hospital, about hotels and other forms of accommodation available in the city.

  • Bank Machines

A bank machine is located just inside the main entrance of the hospital. There is a service charge of $1.50 to use the machine.

  • Cashier

The Cashier’s Office is located in the main lobby of the hospital and is open Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

  • Change Machine

A change machine is located in the main lobby. It exchanges $5, $10, and $20 bills for an equal value of dollar coins.

  • Flowers and Fruit Baskets

Flowers and fruit baskets ordered for patients are delivered everyday by our hospital volunteers.

  • Food (Cafeteria)

Our cafeteria, located on the main floor of the hospital, offers patients, staff and visitors a variety of soups, sandwiches, hot entrees, salads, desserts and fresh-brewed fair trade coffee, as well as a wide variety of juices and cold beverages. The cafeteria is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on weekends and holidays from 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.

  • Gift Shop

Run by the hospital's volunteer association, the gift shop in the main lobby carries a wide range of gifts, candies, cards, magazines, stamps and Nevada tickets. The gift shop is open Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Hair Care

Hair care can be arranged through your nurse. We have a barber on call that comes in to cut hair, however if you would prefer to go out we can arrange that as well. There are a few salons in the area that we send patients to on a regular basis.

  • Hearing Assistance

If you have difficulty hearing or are deaf, contact your nurse who will make arrangements to help you communicate while at our hospital.
  • Health Sciences Library

The Health Sciences Library provides information resources and services to hospital and medical staff to support evidence-based clinical care, research, and education. Visitors are welcome to use the collection on-site. The Library is located just down the hall from our cafeteria. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There is one parking lot reserved for patients and visitors. This lot is the Main Lot (Lot A), located directly in front of the hospital off Dunlop Street. Parking is available in this lot for $5 per day.

If you are physically disabled, there are spaces reserved for you close to the Main Entrance in the Main Lot. These spaces are metered up to four hours. Make sure you display your valid Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) handicap sticker or your vehicle will be towed. Long-term parking passes are available; please speak with your nurse.
  • Patient Meals

Unless your doctor has ordered a special diet for you, you will be provided with a 'continental breakfast' and a 'light lunch' consisting of soup, sandwich, dessert, and beverages. Dinner is served from a non-selective menu that has been carefully chosen for you. We trust you'll find the meals appetizing, hot and nourishing. Dining room service is provided on the new Community Tower floors: C4, C5 and C6. If you are patient on any of these floors you may choose to eat your meals with other patients in a beautifully appointed dining room where a selective menu is offered for some meals. If you have any questions about what you are eating, or if you would like to see a Dietitian, please contact your nurse. Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon, and dinner from 4:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

  • Worship Centre

Our pastoral care chaplains serve those of any faith and those of no faith at all. We offer groups on spirituality for both inpatients and outpatients in mental health. We have a dedicated palliative care chaplain and three other chaplains for particular areas of the hospital. There are weekly ecumenical services held on the complex continuing care ward (forth floor) for patients and their families every Thursday at 2:00 p.m.

We also have an individual who acts as our Aboriginal Liaison to help advocate our indigenous patients and their families. A healing place or smudge room is in the process of planning and it will be available as sacred space for people of all faiths to be able to pray, smudge or just be still and quiet for a period of time.

The worship centre, located on the main floor just inside the main lobby of the hospital, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In case of emergency there are on-call chaplains who are available 24/7. You can reach us at extension 3365.
