Health Sciences Library
The Health Sciences Library provides information resources and services to hospital and medical staff to support evidence-based clinical care, research, and education.
The Collection includes books, journals, electronic databases and audiovisual material. Subject areas include medicine, nursing, allied health, healthcare management and some consumer health.
Although the Library’s mandate is to serve OSMH staff, visitors are welcome to use the collection on-site. However, we recommend that visitors first go to their public library for research assistance prior to visiting us.
The Library is located just down the hall from our cafeteria, and just across the hallway from our continuing education facilities. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Patient Meals
Unless your doctor has ordered a special diet for you, you will be provided with a 'continental breakfast' and a 'light lunch' consisting of soup, sandwich, dessert, and beverages. Dinner is served from a non-selective menu that has been carefully chosen for you. We trust you'll find the meals appetizing, hot and nourishing. Dining room service is provided on the new Community Tower floors: C4, C5 and C6. If you are patient on any of these floors you may choose to eat your meals with other patients in a beautifully appointed dining room where a selective menu is offered for some meals. If you have any questions about what you are eating, or if you would like to see a Dietitian, please contact your nurse. Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon, and dinner from 4:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Worship Centre
Our pastoral care chaplains serve those of any faith and those of no faith at all. We offer groups on spirituality for both inpatients and outpatients in mental health. We have a dedicated palliative care chaplain and three other chaplains for particular areas of the hospital. There are weekly ecumenical services held on the complex continuing care ward (forth floor) for patients and their families every Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
We also have an individual who acts as our Aboriginal Liaison to help advocate our indigenous patients and their families. A healing place or smudge room is in the process of planning and it will be available as sacred space for people of all faiths to be able to pray, smudge or just be still and quiet for a period of time.
The worship centre, located on the main floor just inside the main lobby of the hospital, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In case of emergency there are on-call chaplains who are available 24/7. You can reach us at extension 3365.
