COVID-19 Outbreak under investigation on OSMH IMRS (Integrated Medicine and Rehabilitation Services) Unit
(Sunday, January 2, 2022 – Orillia, ON) – Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH), in consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), is investigating a suspected COVID-19 outbreak on its Integrated Medicine and Rehabilitation Services (IMRS) Unit. The investigation is focused on one half of the IMRS unit after a patient tested positive for COVID-19. The other half of the IMRS Unit remains in heightened surveillance for COVID-19.
All other patients on the unit have tested negative to date, are safely quarantining in their rooms and are being monitored closely for symptoms. Enhanced cleaning and surveillance protocols have been implemented.
“The OSMH Team is taking all necessary measures to limit the spread of this highly transmissible Omicron variant.” said Carmine Stumpo, OSMH President and CEO. “We appreciate the support and patience of our community as we continue to serve during this challenging phase of the pandemic.”
All urgent and emergent health services remain open to the community, recognizing that wait times in the Emergency Department may be prolonged.
