At Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) we are committed to ensuring that our programs and services are completely accessible to all members of our community.

OSMH Accessibility Plan

The OSMH Board of Directors has adopted the following Accessibility Policy for the organization. At OSMH we are committed to:

  • developing, implementing, reviewing and revising a program that will help identify and remove barriers in the workplace and within our facilities and programs including physical and non-physical;
  • ensuring all barriers are identified within our facilities and workplace;
  • identifying short term and long term goals in an effort to eliminate barriers;
  • ensuring an annual review is completed and long-term plans are updated and adjusted based on progress made in eliminating barriers; and
  • liaising with persons in the community who have a disability to ensure all barriers are identified.

Accessibility Information

Wheelchair information for OSMH

Dunlop Street Entrance (Main Hospital Entrance off Dunlop Street)

  • Wheelchairs are available at the Volunteer Information Desk at the Main Entrance
  • Wheelchair accessible washrooms for patients and visitors are located on the Main Floor by the cafeteria
  • The cafeteria, gift shop, and chapel on the Main Floor are all wheelchair accessible

Emergency Room Entrance (off Colbourne Street)

  • Wheelchairs are available at the Information Desk in the Emergency Room
  • Wheelchair accessible washrooms for patients and visitors are located at this entrance

Dunedin Circle Entrance (Dialysis & Paediatric Units)

  • There is a ramp to the entrance of the hospital in the Dunedin Circle. Wheelchair accessible washrooms are also available at that entrance.

Outpatient Clinic Entrance

  • There is a ramp to the entrance of the hospital via outpatient clinics. Wheelchair accessible washrooms are also available at that entrance.

Cancer Clinic Entrance

  • There is a ramp to the entrance of the hospital via cancer clinic. Wheelchair accessible washrooms are also available at that entrance.

Wheel Trans pick up and drop-off locations

  • The Main Entrance to OSMH is the main pick up and drop-off location

Other Services

Deaf, Hard of Hearing (DHH) and Visually Impaired

To ensure clear communication between patients, families and staff, we have a variety of accessibility supports available such as: text messaging alerts in the Emergency Department waiting room, electronic communication screens in the Central Patient Registration area, Pocket Talker Voice Amplifiers, and Sign Language/Translation services. Please notify a member of our staff of your accessibility needs to coordinate the services you will require during your visit.

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome at OSMH. For infection prevention and control reasons, the service animal must remain with their owner at all times. A certificate confirming that the animal has been trained by a professional service animal institution and an up-to-date vaccine certificate may be required.
