Diabetes Canada awards perfect score to OSMH education program

The Adult Diabetes Education Centre (ADEC) at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is basking in the glow of a perfect score awarded by the Standards Recognition Review Committee of Diabetes Canada.

To attain recognition status, a diabetes education centre must demonstrate achievement of a minimum of 80% of the required standards.  OSMH achieved 100% compliance in each of the three categories – outcome, process and structure.

“From patients to providers, it’s validation to everyone involved in the program of our commitment to provide the highest quality of care and service,” said Shantelle Pollon, Manager of the ADEC at OSMH.

This is the first time in the history of the local program that ADEC has participated in the national review initiative.

“We are thrilled with the outcome and look forward to continuing to grow the program to meet the needs of our patients and their families.” Said Jill Colin, Chief Nursing Executive at OSMH.

The report from the Review Committee concludes that the ADEC, “is a well-organized program supporting patients with diabetes across the age, complexity and continuum of the condition.  Through the flexibility in the delivery of care, the innovative programming and the well reported evaluation processes in place, this organization truly reflects a commitment to working towards the best possible outcomes for their clients at risk and with diabetes.”

Recognition status is granted for a five-year period.
