CEO Takes the Polar Plunge
Hospital CEO taking the polar plunge in support of Mariposa House Hospice
Carmine Stumpo, President and CEO of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) has confirmed his participation in the Severn Winterfest Polar Bear Dip on Sunday, January 27th at ODAS Park. Proceeds from the event will support Mariposa House Hospice which is scheduled to begin construction later this year.
“I’ll be chilled and thrilled,” said Stumpo. “Chilled coming out of the water, but thrilled to be able to support the establishment of such an important and much-needed facility for our community.”
The five-bed hospice will be built on 2.4 acres of land just outside of Orillia, at 1140 Brodie Drive and should be complete this Fall. A $3.5 million fundraising campaign is well underway with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care approving $1 million in capital funding along with a $300,000 grant from the County of Simcoe. Orillia is currently the only major city in the Simcoe County area without a hospice.
Anyone who would like to make a pledge in support of Carmine, can do so by emailing Cathie Easton at cdeaston@osmh.on.ca. Receipts are available for all pledges in excess of $20 and will be processed by Mariposa House Hospice.
