OSMH announces list of recommended candidates to fill Board vacancies
The Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Board of Directors has released their list of recommended candidates to fill the five anticipated vacancies on the Board this summer. The recommendation will be considered by the hospital’s corporate members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.
The five candidates recommended by the Nominating Committee and approved by the Board are:
Dr. Sheila Clark* – | Dr. Clark has been a member of the Board for two years and is a registered nurse (RN) with a diverse international healthcare background that has included senior leadership and consulting positions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Canada. She received her Doctor of Education in 2016 from the University of Calgary. Ms. Clark is a resident of Orillia and is being recommended for a 3 year term.

Dan Germain* – | Mr. Germain has been a member of the Board for the past six years. He served as Board Chair from June 2017 – June 2019. A chartered professional accountant by profession, he has over 25 years of healthcare experience, having held senior management positions at hospitals across the province. He is being recommended for a third, 3-year term.

Marc Lemieux – | Mr. Lemieux is new to the OSMH Board of Directors. He is a litigation lawyer specializing in injuries, contractual disputes and labour and employment law. He is a resident of Oro-Medonte and is being recommended for a 3-year term. |
Ted Markle** – | Mr. Markle was appointed to the OSMH Board of Directors in November 2019 to fill a mid-term vacancy. He has previous governance experience serving as Chair of the Orillia Museum of Art & History, and as a member of the Board of the Mariposa Folk Foundation. Markle has an extensive business background in the printing and publishing industry. He is a resident of Orillia and is being recommended to complete the remaining 2 years on the previously vacant position. | ||
Ron Shulman** – | Mr. Shulman was appointed to the Board in November 2019 to fill a mid-term vacancy. He is a strategy and change consultant with expertise in the manufacturing and healthcare sectors. Mr. Shulman is a resident of Tiny, ON and is being recommended for a 3-year term. | ||

The hospital would also like to acknowledge and thank outgoing Chair Al Scott for his service to the Corporation. The 2020 AGM will mark the conclusion of Mr. Scott’s nine year tenure on the Board, the maximum allowed under Hospital by-laws.
First elected to the Board in 2011, and re-elected in 2014 and 2017, Mr. Scott was appointed Chair following the 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM). Prior to his appointment as Chair, Mr. Scott served as Vice Chair for 3 years and has chaired or been a member of the Governance, Resources, Quality & Safety, Nominating and Resources Committees of the Board. Mr. Scott is a Chartered Professional Accountant and works in the Quality Assurance section at the provincial headquarters of the O.P.P.
Under hospital by-laws, additional nominations can still be submitted by Members of the Corporation up to 30 days prior to the AGM. The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 24, 2020. Nomination packages including eligibility requirements are available on the hospital’s website www.osmh.on.ca.
