Future Hospital – What’s Next?

Future Hospital – What’s Next?

Some of you may have seen some media coverage on the future hospital project over the summer.  I know I have been getting the questions, “When is the hospital moving” and “Where is the hospital moving” more frequently when I talk about OSMH with staff and the community.

After some behind the scenes work getting our planning documents together, we are now ready to talk more about the possibilities for a new hospital location.  We’re anticipating a lot more chatter about the Future Hospital project this Fall, and that’s exactly what we’re hoping for as OSMH launches a public survey to determine the criteria that will be used to assess potential sites.

The survey will give people the opportunity to tell us what’s important to them when considering possible hospital locations.    We are asking people to rate criteria, everything from transit options to proximity to other services.  This information will be used in conjunction with technical requirements to help select a preferred site.

I want to strongly encourage as many people as possible to complete the survey, and specifically hospital staff, credentialed staff and volunteers.   It is the people of OSMH that make this place special and we want to make sure we hear from you.   You are also members of different local communities and know better than anyone that our patients and families deserve a facility that matches the excellent, compassionate care at OSMH.

When the survey is announced, it will include instructions for both online and print versions.     I would invite you to respond and encourage others to do the same.   The more perspectives we gather, the better.  After the survey closes on September 27th, the results will be summarized and shared publicly.   This will allow our Future Hospital Steering Committee to assess options knowing what is most important to you.

We are very excited about this next step in the process.  Although we are still early in the process, these are important conversations to have with our staff, credentialed staff, volunteers and our community at large as we plan for the health of our community for generations to come.

We look forward to moving this project forward and will continue to keep you up to date along the way.
